This week, Starbucks Coffee announced that it would finally provide free, unlimited wireless Internet access in all its U.S. stores effective July 1. While many have been able to enjoy wifi access at Starbuck’s because they had a particular ISP, not everyone enjoyed this value-added benefit while sipping their latte or frappuccino.
Starbuck’s announcement has implications for the virtual lawyer, particularly those working solely from home. Taking into consideration all ethical responsibilities that arise when you meet with a client in a public place or access the Internet from a public wifi “hotspot,” Starbuck’s will now be a viable location for many to conduct their practice. All in all, I view that as a good thing.
Starbuck’s free, unlimited wifi for all goes into effect on July 1. You can read more about the announcement here.
