Calif. Attys Must Provide Email Address To State Bar By Feb. 1

For those of you who may have missed the announcements in the California Bar Journal, all California attorneys must provide their email addresses to the State Bar by February 1 under a new rule adopted by the California Supreme Court.

Under Rule 9.7 , members of the State Bar must create an online profile through the bar’s secure membership system. Currently, about 160,000 lawyers already have done so and they need do nothing further.  Lawyers must update their information, including email addresses, within 30 days of a move.  And, effective February 1, 2010, all information changes must be made through the lawyer’s “My State Bar Profile.”

Questions about the new requirement may be addressed to the Member Services Center at 1-888/800-3400.  You may also link to the California Bar Journal announcement here.
