From a sheer numbers perspective (i.e., data based on U.S. market share of visits to site), Twitter and Facebook are the social networking success stories for 2009. Here are two interesting graphs from Marketingcharts.com that illustrate my point. The first is from November 2008, the second November 2009.
Do you see what I see? In November 2008, Twitter did not even make this list. By November 2009, however, Twitter was a social networking powerhouse with which to reckon. This shift reflects the tremendous popularity Twitter enjoyed during the year, as more and more users signed up for its service. The question now is – Can Twitter keep up this pace?
Similarly, in November 2008, Myspace still enjoyed market supremacy over its nearst rival, Facebook. Oh, what a difference a year can make.
